Lewes's world-famous Bonfire Night, with torchlit processions by the town's bonfire societies, burning tableaux and fireworks. Processions begin from around 5pm, and most fire site events start around 9.45pm (South Street about 8.30pm, Waterloo about 9.30pm), with fireworks finishing around 11pm. Most fire sites charge about £10 and are ticketed in advance from the Tourist Information Centre and local pubs and shops; Commercial Square is free.

The event is for Lewes residents, and visitors from outside the town are asked not to travel to spectate. It is loud and crowded, with steep hills and long distances, and is not suitable for people with mobility issues.

Travel: roads into Lewes close from 4.45pm and there is no parking in the town centre. No trains stop at Lewes after about 3pm and none run in or out on the night.
