As we leave the summer months behind—after what has already proven to be an exceptionally busy and bustling period at UNO—we prepare for an equally lively and vibrant autumn, beginning with ARTWAVE 2025, the annual festival of visual arts in the Lewes, Seaford, and Newhaven district. The resident Sussex Arts Collective at UNO has long been associated with the Artwave Festival, having its origins in an open house venue many years ago and winning the Best Venue competition twice!

From 6th to 21st September 2025, the Lewes District comes alive with colour, creativity, and community for Artwave 2025, one of Sussex’s most celebrated open art festivals. With over 1,000 artists and 163 exhibitions, it offers an immersive journey through ceramics, textiles, painting, photography, and more. Visitors are invited to explore studios, galleries, and unexpected spaces across Lewes, Seaford, Newhaven, and neighbouring villages. Beyond the art, it’s a chance to meet makers, uncover stories, and support local talent. Whether you're an art lover, a curious wanderer, or a collector, Artwave is an invitation to discover what inspires Sussex’s creative pulse.

EXHIBITOR OF THE MONTH ADELE WALSHE (Glass)
Born in Berkshire, Adele Walshe grew up in a village farmhouse lovingly restored by her parents, her mother, a mathematics teacher who embraced watercolour painting, and her father, an inventive engineer. After working in finance and later spending 30 years with an IT company including six years in California, Adele returned to the UK in 2002 and later taking redundancy in 2018.

Alongside her career, she explored art through evening and weekend classes in painting, pottery, sculpture, and stone carving. Her creative turning point came in 2018 when a stained glass class in Hove sparked a profound connection with the medium.

Now studying for a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at West Dean College, Adele has expanded into metalwork, mosaics, printmaking, silkscreen, and letterpress. The 2020 lockdown reignited her passion for painting, leading her to recreate works by Monet, Picasso, and Turner.

Her stained glass reflects playful imagination, re-imagining Brighton’s Duke of York Cinema “legs,” crafting peeping animals and Punch and Judy scenes. Commissions span pet portraits, landscapes and personalised stained glass items for weddings, and anniversaries.

Recently she’s been experimenting with fused glass, embracing its textures and layered potential. Living in Seaford since 2002, Adele draws daily inspiration from the coast, pushing artistic boundaries as she blends diverse elements into her work.
