Eastbourne is celebrating International Women’s Day with a special community event at The Gather — and everyone is welcome!
Delivered in partnership with Eastbourne Unltd Chamber of Commerce, this year’s celebration brings together organisations from across the town to honour the achievements of women and girls locally and around the world.
This year’s global theme: Give to Gain
A reminder that when we give our time, knowledge, advocacy or resources, we create greater opportunities for women — and build stronger, more connected communities.
Event highlights include:
• A Living Library, giving visitors the chance to speak directly with inspirational local women, including:
– Dorit Oliver Woolf BEM, Holocaust survivor and Honorary Freewoman of Eastbourne
– Mana Ellis, Sanctuary Café
– Laura Murphy, Wayfinder Woman
– Carole Gregory, Care for the Carers
– Claire Hackney Ring, Flourish and Thrive
– Carol Ann Slater, artist and former HIV/AIDS nursing pioneer
• A collaborative Give to Gain photography project
• Screenings of Being a Woman by Creative Force
• Handcrafted crocheted flowers in IWD colours
• A Tree of Inspiration for sharing quotes and tributes
• Signposting to local women’s health, wellbeing and safety organisations
• Interactive installation capturing community aspirations
• White Ribbon pledges supporting women’s safety
• Craft activities including coaster decorating & bead friendship bracelets
The event will be opened by Mayor of Eastbourne, Cllr Margaret Bannister, and is free and open to all.
Come along, get involved, and be inspired by the incredible women shaping Eastbourne and beyond.
